The rendezvous with nature continues back at the lodge with the buffer zone walks or the early morning bird walks that are a great opportunity to explore the jungle on foot; Take a long walk up to ‘Koka talao’, a water body excellent for birding and also makes for a perfect picnic. And if you are lucky, you may even spot a flying squirrel that nestles in the tall Mahua tree near the entrance!!
There is much to see beyond the wildlife too. Take a walk through the sights and sounds of a traditional village. Discover Pachdhar, the potter’s village in the neighborhood. You too can roll up your sleeves and try your hand at shaping glorious works of art.
There is a cluster of villages around the park where you can get a glimpse of the local culture and customs of
the Gond tribe.
You can be driven there at no extra cost.
You could also go shopping at the local haat. Villages burst into colorful weekly markets, where you may find something of
interest!
Hike along the sandy riverbank or cycle along the forest trails and be rewarded with afternoon tea on the rocks. Our naturalist, belonging to the area, will accompany you and fill you up on the local names and usages of some shrubs and medical and other exotic plants.
There are also in-house activities and games such as table tennis, carom and chess.
Organic farming and indigenous plants
At Mahua Vann, we highly regard our surrounding social and ecological environment, and are committed to the well-being of the communities who are our hosts. We have initiated organic farming and a nursery for indigenous shrubs & herbs, that are of great medicinal value. We try and grow our own pharmacy and encourage our guests to plant saplings as well.
